A United Nations fact-finding mission found “reasonable grounds to believe” that the United States committed crimes when it struck a primary school and a sports center in Iran on the opening day of the conflict. The 18-page report was submitted to the Human Rights Council on Wednesday.

The first strike hit the Shajareh Tayyebeh Primary School in Minab on February 28. It killed at least 157 people, including roughly 120 children and 26 school staff members. Ninety-five others were wounded. The investigators found no evidence that the school was being used for military purposes. CNN reported that the military used outdated satellite imagery from 2013 to create the target coordinates. Images from 2016 showed a fence had been built to separate the school from a nearby military base.

The second strike hit a sports complex and a residential area in Lamerd on the same day. The missiles released clouds of tungsten pellets that killed 22 civilians and wounded more than 100. The military said it did not launch any strikes in Lamerd on that date. The United Nations said it did.

The Pentagon spokesman wrote on social media in March: “Unlike Iran, the United States never targets civilians.” Investigators from the United Nations said the school was “clearly identifiable” and the attack was “indiscriminate.” It has been 202 days since the strikes. The government has not disclosed its own investigation.

One hundred and twenty children were in a school. The military struck it using a satellite image from a decade earlier. The United Nations called it a crime. The government has said nothing for 202 days.

The agency held a record 50,000 people in July. Fifty-seven people have died in its custody since January 2025. It bought shock gloves, robot dogs, and outdoor cages it calls “calming areas.” And now it has stopped counting when women and girls in its care lose pregnancies.

Tracking the data is how the public knows whether the conditions in these facilities are safe for pregnant women. Stopping the count does not stop the miscarriages. It stops the evidence.

The machine does not fix the conditions. It erases the record. When the data disappears, the accountability disappears with it.

The President Dismissed Soaring Fuel Costs While the Conflict That Caused Them Entered Its Eighth Month

The president dismissed the soaring cost of fuel on Friday even as the conflict that drove the increase entered its eighth month. Democracy Now reported that he waved away questions about gas reaching $5 a gallon in most of the country.

On Wednesday, the Federal Reserve raised interest rates for the first time in three years because inflation… driven by the same conflict… had climbed to 3.4 percent while wages sat at 3.1 percent. The president called the Fed “hostile.” On Friday he dismissed the fuel costs the conflict is causing.

Bond yields are at their highest level since 2007. Oil is above $100. Two global shipping lanes are either closed or contested. And the president who started the conflict says the cost is not worth discussing.

The machine causes the cost and then dismisses it. The conflict raises the fuel. The fuel raises the food. The food raises the rates. And the president says it is not a problem.

A coalition of progressive organizations launched a campaign called “Drop the Genocide 20” to identify and publicly target 20 former government officials who aided the assault on Gaza. Democracy Now reported the effort Friday.

The campaign names officials from the previous administration who approved arms sales, provided diplomatic cover, or blocked ceasefire efforts at the United Nations. The goal is to ensure that these individuals face professional and public consequences even after leaving office.

The revolving door usually works in one direction. Officials leave government, take private-sector jobs, and their record fades from view. This campaign is an attempt to keep the record visible… to make sure the names stay attached to the decisions.

The machine lets officials walk away when their term ends. This campaign says: the decisions followed you out the door.
